Saturday In My World.. Critters to Feed.. Chores to do.. and a Rumble of Thunder..

  1. Elephants must eat more than peanuts to be that big, don't you think? :-) I've always wondered, but never took time to look it up.

  2. Judy Sheldon-Walker~ sure they do.. the ones we saw at the circus were being fed hay and sweet feed that is given to horse.. peanuts would be only a treat.. In captivity .. such as a zoo.. or game preserve.. elephant food includes cabbage, lettuce, sugar cane, apples, bananas, as well as other fruits and vegetables. But hay, herbivore pellets, and acacia leaf fodder are the mainstays of a captive elephant's diet.. I looked that up.. lol.. They eat almost 700 pounds of food a day and drink around 50 gallons of water.. I always thought I'd like to own one.. ride him around town and stuff but it sounds like a lot of work just to feed one.. Have a great day!
